Eric, K3NA WRTC-2006 Blog

difficult to blog!
Posted: Jul 5, 2006 15:04 PDT

I managed to stay anonymous until about 10 AM at the airport in Sao Paulo. Then a bevy of WRTC attendees found me waiting for the flight to Florianopolis. By the time we boarded, at least a dozen DXCC entities were chatting in a big knot of people.

Sitting here in a room surrounded by WRTCers, with WiFi access, presents challenges to the well-intentioned blogger. Every few minutes someone walks up that I have yet to greet. This is the initial pileup of old friends from past WRTC, contest expeditions, DXpeditions, and hamfests, who I recognize on first sight. Intermingled are new names and faces -- a struggle for me to remember. All conversations are brief -- a few minutes -- as we know there will be time to sit down for lengthy talks later.

Sunset was early: 1715 local time. It's winter! As the sun disappeared behind the hills one could see night approaching over the ocean. The unique sounds and sights of local birds (including a burrowing owl) and peeping insects or frogs was a strong reminder that home is far away.

More later. Friends are waiting for Brazilian wine tasting.
