First Class all the way to WRTC!
Posted: Jul 6, 2006 14:30 PDT

What! Who would spend that kind of money in lieu of a Sky needle or stacked beams? Ah, he drove his own car! Yes, for a bit of international flavor, I have joined the bloggers at WRTC. CX7TT, a referee, drove from Montevideo to WRTC, about 1400 km, 3 tanks of gas and about $210 in fuel. That's about $5.00 per gallon! We have been anticipating this trip for many weeks. I had been to the PY/CX border but never across. The drive was incredibly scenic, varying from very flat farmland where gauchos (cowboys) rode their horses thru the fields of cows, sheep and herds of horses. We stopped after 12hours on the road in Torres, the southern tip of the state of Santa Catarina and the first point where we saw the Atlantic Ocean...wow, Brazil is beautiful and seeing all the big trucks on the road, it's a booming economy! Arrived at the resort and settled in to an awesome two room suite. The Brazilian people are very warm, hospitable and friendly. First faces seen, Terry, N6CW which is a great reunion as he was my contesting mentor in 1978; we subsequently did many contests from VP2V. Next up, Marko, N5ZO, another friend. So many friendly people. More later.
