Opening Ceremony Posted: Jul 7, 2006 05:06 PDT
Opening Ceremony was special event!
Each team’s country was recognized and applauded as the team’s representative came to the front to hang their country’s flag from 35+ staffs arranged around the room. Special warm applause was accorded first time participants, China, Romania and Thailand (MN/MS). Hey, what happened to Uruguay? Alas, ah, referees are not competitors! Ok, the Oriental Republic of Uruguay will just have to wait until next WRTC. I could feel the spirit of camaraderie flow throughout the room and good will from so many that had traveled so far for this Radio Olympics. The Vice-Mayor of Florianopolis welcomed us to the event and as an avid surfer, he compared his ‘riding the waves’ to our ‘riding the radio waves’ and wished us “Boa Sorte” with the contest.
